Toronto Job Fair: On 22 February Toronto Pearson Airport job fair saw huge participation by over 30 employers. Thousands of job seekers eagerly waited for hours in queue to get into the Toronto Congress Center in Etobicoke. Toronto Pearson jobs were made available to the public through the job fair organized at Toronto Congress Center.

The Toronto Pearson Airport, the largest in Canada and an important connecting hub in North America is operated by the Greater Toronto Airports Authority. Pearson is the largest and busiest airport in Canada, handling 36.3 million passengers in 2022. As of 2019, it was the second-busiest international air passenger gateway in North America and the 29th-busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic.

The Pearson Airport already boasts of a workforce greater than 50,000 and each year Pearson job fairs are much awaited who dream of working at the airport. With the summer coming up players across the aviation industry came together to actively recruit and be prepared to handle the rush. Toronto Pearson jobs have always attracted very high number of job hopefuls.

A variety of job positions were offered to work at Canada’s biggest and busiest airport. Enthusiasts keen to work both inside the terminals as well as on the ramp close to the aircraft keenly participated in the fair.

It started at 10am but the people began queuing much before that and it ended at 2 pm. Winding lines of job seekers were seen at the fair center.

Toronto Pearson Airport shared  a video on social media that captured the enthusiasm of both the job applicants as well as the hiring managers/teams at the largest job fair of 2024 held by them.

Shefali Khanna, a job seeker from Brampton, spoke to us,”she said this was her third time at the job fair and she is used to seeing such huge lines at every Toronto job fair event”. She said her previous job fair attendance didn’t yield any results and today too she was not very hopeful. She said, “the Toronto Job Market is very competitive and you should have a very impressive resume and top of it great luck to land a job”.

Another candidate who didn’t want to be named, said,”I am terrified to see such big line of job applicants and I am going back home”.

On the other hand, another job applicant named, Jacob Cruz was super excited as he came out of the Congress Centre, he told us that he had very positive conversations with two major participating employers in the fair. He said he was very hopeful and was feeling very positive. He did not want to name those companies.

The Toronto job market has become highly competitive. Finding jobs in Toronto and the GTA is not an easy task at all

Some of the major employers included Air Canada, FedEx, Sunwing, HMS Host, Paladin Security, Porter Airlines, Sheraton, and WestJet.

There were also roles available in the food and beverage sector from companies such as

A wide array of opportunities awaited those who attended the hiring event ranging from entry level position such as baggage handlers to mid-level customer service agents to senior level officials. There was an opportunity for each and everyone.

Pearson has regularly held such job fairs in the past but this proved the be the biggest till date both in terms of employers as well as attendees.

“The aviation industry is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and as a result, many of our 400 companies are creating new, meaningful jobs here in Ontario,” said Karen Mazurkewich, Vice-President of Stakeholder Relations and Communications, Toronto Pearson. “The airport is the second largest employment zone in Canada, and the latest successful job fair underscores its importance as a major economic engine for the region.”

Few weeks ago, Pearson was ranked 210 overall in the annual Forbes’ list of “Canada’s Best Employers” in 2024 that ranks the best 300 employers n Canada as per their independent surveys.

Along with this recognition it also grabbed the award for being the “Best Large Airport in North America serving more than 40 million passengers” for five years in a row by Airports Council International (ACI). The ACI which is the global trade representative of all the world’s airports also awarded Pearson for taking the “Best hygiene measures in North America” award for three years running, and Toronto Pearson is the first Canadian airport to receive ACI’s global health accreditation for its response to COVID-19.

With so many awards in its bag it is one of the most sought-after places to work and this reflected in the rush on Thursday at the Congress Centre. Those who were lucky to take quick action and pre-register for the event experienced shorter wait times and ques to enter the venue. Those who could not register had to wait in the ques several miles long.

In a similar job fair held by Toronto Pearson in October 2023 a minimum of 450 people were offered employment. This time Pearson airport aims to fill around 700 positions and with the aviation industry bouncing back post-Covid we can only hope that such events will become regular in the near future.
